CHIMPA is a boutique furniture and decoration store located in Lindora, Costa Rica, within Plaza Futura. The brand focuses on reusing and reimagining materials and objects to create distinctive pieces with a lower environmental impact. The project translates this approach into a simple and flexible retail environment where the products remain the main focus.
Located on the north-east corner of the commercial center, the store is accessed through an internal green plaza and has two facades that connect the interior with its surroundings. This position allows natural light and exterior views to become part of the retail experience while maintaining an open relationship with the plaza.
The project creates a neutral framework for constantly changing compositions.
The interior is organized as a flexible setting for furniture, lighting, and decorative objects. Rather than defining a fixed circulation, individual pieces are arranged to create small environments within the larger space, allowing visitors to move freely and experience different combinations of objects, materials, and textures. A suspended metallic grid runs across the ceiling, functioning both as a structural element and as an adaptable system for hanging lamps, plants, and other objects. This allows the store to change as its collection evolves.
The material palette is intentionally restrained, combining polished concrete, glass, white-painted metal, and lacquered wood with the varied textures and tones of the furniture and decorative pieces. This neutral architectural framework provides a consistent background for the collection while allowing each object to retain its own character.
The result is a retail space conceived less as a conventional showroom and more as a flexible setting for discovering objects. The architecture provides a framework that can evolve with CHIMPA’s collection, allowing furniture, lighting, and decoration to continuously create new spatial arrangements.
