A single stone wall between you and the Pacific…

SCOPE

Architecture

AREA

250 sqm

Located on the coast of Guanacaste, Costa Rica, Casa Dolce Far Niente sits within a privileged natural setting, surrounded by lush vegetation and panoramic views toward the Pacific Ocean. This region, known for its contrasting landscapes of mountains and sea, creates a serene environment where tranquility and connection with nature are essential. The strategic placement of the house not only makes the most of the tropical climate, but also integrates the project harmoniously with its surroundings, respecting the local topography and biodiversity.

The architecture is defined by clean, functional lines and a minimalist composition that prioritizes comfort and efficiency. The use of local materials most notably natural stone reflects a conscious and sustainable approach that enters into dialogue with the surrounding landscape. Beyond its visual integration with the site, this material plays a key role in the climatic performance of the house, providing thermal mass that shields against heat and maintains interior coolness. The spatial layout was also designed with a passive strategy in mind, optimizing natural ventilation and reducing dependence on mechanical systems.

…The stone wall does the work of shelter, so the rest of the house is free to be nothing but view.

One of the most iconic elements of the house is the large stone wall that serves as a solar screen. With its robust texture and rustic finish, this wall forms a central axis in the design, fluidly separating private and social spaces. The roof, with its generous overhanging eaves, extends protection against tropical rains and direct sun, while allowing cool breezes to flow through and preserving uninterrupted views of the ocean from every corner of the house. This balance between shelter and openness creates an atmosphere of rest that invites contemplation.

Casa Dolce Far Niente offers not only a modern retreat within nature, but also embodies a conscious way of inhabiting the land one where architecture responds to its context without imposing upon it. Every design decision seeks to align with the terrain, the climate and the views, in a constant dialogue between construction and landscape. The result is a space of peace and equilibrium, where luxury lies in simplicity and in an intimate connection with the natural world.

The architecture steps back, letting the Pacific coast, the breeze, and the vegetation take over.
